To create a new tourism and community hub in Ninohe, we renovated our historic shipping warehouse and reopened it as "Hongura" on September 13, 2023. Now serving as the check-in location for our brewery tours and a sake tasting room, Hongura also functions as a sake shop and a versatile rental space for various events.
In 2023, Nanbu Bijin embarked on a new venture: whisky-making—a first for both us and Iwate Prefecture. Visit Hongura today to taste our whisky in its early stages, with samples of our “new make” available for tasting.
Traditional sake brewing is one of Japan’s proudest traditions, and we invite you to experience it “casually, yet deeply.” Dressed as a brewer from the past, you’ll explore our historic wood-and-earthwork brewhouse—the heart of Nanbu Bijin’s sake-making since its founding.
We have a wide selection of Nanbu Bijin sake, liqueurs, and spirits for sale, including exclusive bottles only available here at our on-site shop. We also offer seasonal sake, so be sure to stop by and see what’s in stock!
We offer a rental plan for the Hongura allowing you to reserve the space for private events such as all-you-can-drink dinner parties, concerts and live shows, sake-themed weddings, as a rental kitchen, and more.
On the last Saturday and Sunday of each month, we host a Monthly Open Brewery event where you can enjoy our sake, liqueur, gin, vodka, and more for just 500 yen per glass. The offerings change each time, but past events have included snacks made with locally sourced ingredients from the Ninohe area and fill-a-bag sales of sake lees (sake-kasu). It makes a great day trip for visitors sightseeing in Hachinohe or Morioka too!
Customer parking is available at the Nakamachi Parking Lot, which can be found a short distance away from our main brewery, where Hongura is located. We can also accommodate large buses—please contact us in advance.
You will find our main brewery to the right-hand side of Prefectural Road No. 274 and you can reach our parking lot by going just a bit past the brewery itself. Enter the parking lot by turning left when you see a large red sign for Morioka Shinkin Bank.
